Merrow Juniors All Weather Pitch Proposal
Merrow Junior School is proud to be a sporty and outdoors-loving school. We offer a range of opportunities to help our children stay active and happy in sports and nature. We are lucky to have extensive facilities that allow us to do this, including a large playing field, a trim trail, climbing areas and an all-weather pitch.
However, the all weather pitch is over 20 years old and has seen better days. It is in need of significant refurbishment including resurfacing. This is vital to ensure our children can continue enjoying a safe and fun place to learn, play sports and stay active year-round and in all weathers.
We propose to upgrade this pitch with a new high-quality all-weather playing surface, which could be used for a range of different sports and activities.
We will believe there is an opportunity for the school to further improve the facility by installing amenities such as floodlights and an outdoor toilet block.
This will enable the school to open up our facilities to the wider community so that it can become a space that brings people together and enables them to lead healthy and active lives.
Of course, we are aware that this proposal may have an impact on our neighbours and are taking this into consideration in our planning. Specifically, we plan to install sensitive floodlighting. This type of lighting is designed to minimise glare and overspill and cause less disturbances to residents and wildlife. We expect the all weather pitch to be in use no later than 9pm on weekdays.
Executive head teacher Mrs Dormer said “This development will upgrade our facilities, providing first-class sports and learning facilities for our children and young people. Additionally, we’d be able to open these facilities to benefit the wider community too.”
The Consultation Process
The Federation is planning to apply for grant funding to finance a substantial part of this development. As part of this process we want to make sure that we are listening to the wider community voice and needs.
To help us shape this initiative we invite you to have your say. Please come and tell us what you think and what activities (for young people or for adults) you’d like to see in our survey here!
